Punchard Discus Strains

Punchard Discus is home to a stunning range of Discus strains, all unique and very special in their own way.

Punchard Discus Super Reds

Punchard Discus Super Reds

This is the ultimate in solid red Discus, the body colour is a deep red/burgundy red and is the colour of a claret wine. This particular strain can change colour – it can go from bright orange, with red patches over the orange base colour with wide black bars, to the deep red/burgundy colour with no bars.

This strain looks its best when it is bright red or burgundy in colour with its full black halo showing. It often has a blue ring between the body colour and the black halo – the edges of the fish usually have a bright red edge and the colour of the eye ranges from a dull yellow to a bright orange or red.

When this Super Red is at its best there is probably no other solid red Discus fish as beautiful and stunning as this. My solid red wild Discus are the ultimate red Discus on the planet today!

Punchard Discus Royal Reds

Punchard Discus Royal Reds

Curipeua Royal Red: Royal means stripes, with this strain the stripes are thicker than the stripes on a Royal Blue. On the Royal Red they break up (it’s a bit like Morse Code – stripes and dots!) The stripes are not dark blue but an electric sky blue, under a dim light the blue is stunning. This strain has thinner black bars from the thick black bars of the Super Red.

This is an absolutely stunning fish, eye colour is usually a bright orange/red and the stripes and dots don’t cover the entire body. They are usually just above the eye, running into the dorsal fin. The anal fin is usually full of bright red and blue stripes (This strain is probably a cross between a super red wild and a fully striped red wild)

Punchard Discus Red X Heckel

Punchard Discus Red X Heckel

This is a cross between a solid red and a heckle. This strain is rare. The body colour is golden red with very little, if any striations. What makes this strain stand out is the 5th black bar, which is always visible. It’s not as prominent as in a full heckle but it’s there all the same.

Sometimes there are small striations right the way down the bar, these can only be seen by looking very closely. There are very little markings on this fish, but still the strong black halo with a red edge to the fin.

This strain nearly always has a stunning red eye which adds to the beauty of it. This strain really looks wild, with attitude! They are truly stunning.

Punchard Discus Golden Reds

Punchard Discus Golden Reds

As the name suggests this strain has a golden/red body colouration. It’s golden in the middle and then the colour goes redder as it reaches the black halo. It has very little striations, if any at all and the eye colour is bright orange or sometimes red.

A very mystical looking strain this is the kind of Discus only seen in books – one strain every Discus keeper wants to own.

Punchard Discus Golden Reds (High Body Form)

Punchard Discus Golden Reds (High Body Form)

This is similar to the Golden Reds, but it has a high body – which makes the strain look very majestic and proud looking! They don’t come better than this strain (unless you like them round that is!)
